Dr. Chulmin Jun is a professor in the Department of Geoinformatics at the University of Seoul. He received his BA in 1988 and MA in 1991 from the Department of Urban Engineering, Seoul National University. He received his Ph.D. in Urban & Regional Planning from Texas A&M University in 1997. After that, he worked as a GIS developer at the Research Triagle Institute in North Carolina for two years. He has been at the University of Seoul since 1999.
His research interests include spatial big data analysis, traffic simulation, and pedestrian micro simulation. He applied AI techniques to public transportation problems and signal optimization problems. He also developed an evacuation simulator linked to sensors such as people counting sensors, fire sensors, and CCTV, and applied it to the fire evacuation models. The subjects he teaches include object-oriented programming, databases, spatial databases, and spatial analysis. He currently serves as director of the Korean Spatial Information Society. He runs the GeoDB Lab(geodb.uos.ac.kr) for graduate school.
